Romeo And Juliet - What Is Love? :: essays research papers

Has Shakespeare persuaded you that Romeo and Juliet are enamored toward the finish of act one? What is love? Love implies a warm loving or love for an individual, tender commitment. Does the manner in which Romeo depict Juliet sound like love to you? As I would see it love doesn't happen from the start sight, it is something that you have to move in the direction of. Romeo just depicts Juliet’s excellence and not her internal magnificence. â€Å"Beauty excessively rich for use, for earth too dear!† Romeo is trying to say how magnificence like that is excessively useful for the earth. At the point when Romeo says â€Å" O dear record! My life is my foe’s debt,† he is stating that his life and love is in the possession of a foe! This is a brutal explanation to state considering he has never talked or meet Juliet Capulet. Consider Shakespeare’s selection of words and the manner in which he fuses them into the play. Do his decision and course of action of words; make you think, about Romeo and Juliet’s love? On the off chance that you thought Romeo was going to limits hold up until you catch wind of Juliet. Following gathering Romeo, she tells the medical caretaker â€Å"If he be hitched, my grave is probably going to be my wedding-bed.† Juliet is stating that on the off chance that she was unable to wed him she would prefer to be dead. Recollect Juliet is stating this with out knowing Romeo’s name. Juliet asks her medical caretaker who that fine man of his word is, the attendant rapidly answers â€Å"His name is Romeo, and a Montague; the main child of your extraordinary enemy.† Shakespeare makes you wonder if Romeo and Juliet are really enamored. Since this play was composed 400 years back, the world has changed essentially, yet the feelings and perspective in this play have withstood the trial of time. This is the reason films, for example, Romeo and Juliet in (1996) were so effective. Shakespeare's play and the film indicated they have numerous similitudes and numerous distinctions, yet one thing remains, they all utilization all inclusive realities to identify with their crowds. The way things are, I don't accept that Romeo is enamored with Juliet, yet Juliet is infatuated with Romeo.

From Individualism to Unionism The Changing Meaning of...

From Individualism to Unionism: The Changing Meaning of Freedom in America In 1893, when Frederick Jackson Turner delivered his speech on the significance of frontier at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, he was addressing an audience that had witnessed the drastic changes that swept through the country over the past sixty or so years. The United States had gone from the agrarian nation of Jefferson’s vision—one with a relatively balanced division of wealth, a population of homogenous skilled workers, and a narrow definition of equality based on a broad definition of freedom—to the highly industrialized urban nation glorified by the World’s Fair itself—one of polarized wealth, vast and increasing numbers of unassimilated,†¦show more content†¦As long as such equality existed, as it did throughout pre-industrialized America, the conception of the government as a tyranny waiting to flex its muscle if given wide enough berth, and of freedom as being enjoyed by those not under the government’s direct control, remained. As the American economy shifted more heavily towards manufacture, however, and less cheap land was available in the territories for those objecting to wage labor to seek their fortunes, the wealth that Tocqueville required to be distributed evenly for democratic freedom became increasingly polarized in the hands of a few. With this shift came a parallel change in the concept of freedom, with the government coming to be viewed as a protector of class interests, and the meaning of freedom itself becoming tied up with financial solvency rather than ideas of political liberty. At the time of Tocqueville’s writing, during and immediately after the Jacksonian era, the national economy was still largely agriculture-based, and federal intervention in national economic matters was fiercely debated for the possible threat it posed to the â€Å"common man† that Jackson had enfranchised to protect. So though assisting these patients’ results in dying a premature death, the question is how much value is there in these last months of theirRead MoreOne Of The Main Supreme Court Cases Leading The Legalization1414 Words   |  6 PagesOne of the main supreme court cases leading the legalization of Physician-Assisted Suicide (PAS), which took place in the state of New York was the Vacco vs. Quill decided on June 26 1997. By covering this topic maybe I can share some light on the pros of euthanasia for those against it. Euthanasia by definition is the act or practice of killing or permitting the death of hopelessly sick or injured individuals

Workplace Law for Construction - Forestry and Mining- myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about theWorkplace Law for Construction, Forestry and Mining. Answer: Issue The issue in this case is to identify the position of Ken in relation to redundancy Rules An employer has the right to terminate employment on the basis of redundancies. The situation of redundancy occurs when the position where the employee is working is no longer required by the business or the business is no long capable of sustaining employment. There are specific criteria which an employer must follow in relation to the process of redundancy or else the employee would have the right of making a legal claim. The employee has the right to make a claim of unfair dismissal unless there is a genuine redundancy under The Fair Work Act 2009 (FW Act). All contracts has two types of terms namely expressed terms and implied terms. In the same way employment contract also contain expressed as well as implied terms. Whether an implied term is present in a contract or not is determined by the court. The presence of an implied term is determined by the court by analyzing the fact that whether the term is necessary for the continuation of the contract. If the term is obvious and mandatory for the contract it is an implied term. The term cannot be held as implied if it is merely just or equitable as provided in the case of Barker v Commonwealth Bank of Australia [2014] HCA 32. Another significant case in Australia related to implied terms and commercial custom usage is the case of Con-Stan Industries of Australia Pty Ltd v Norwich Winterthur Insurance (Australia) Ltd [1986] HCA 14; (1986) 160 CLR 226 where the same principles of implied terms had been discussed. in the case of UES (Int'l) Pty Limited v Leevan Harney [2012] FWAFB 5241 it had been ruled by the court that where there is genuine redundancy the employer can chose any method to dismiss an employee unless such measure is unfair or discriminatory in nature with respect to age, sex , gender , religion, pregnancy or matrimonial status. The case also provided that using the last on first off policy could lead to age or sex discrimination when it comes to previous practices of employment of the employer. the case of Morgan v Mineral Technologies Pty Ltd (2015) FWC 4142 it had been provided by the Fair work commission that the decision of the employer not to deploy the first on last off policy did not account to unfair dismissal. The court provided that This is an irrelevant consideration for the purposes of this application and it is a selection criterion that in any event may compromise the productivity of the employer and exacerbate the business difficulties facing the company. It is not a selection criterion to which the employer gave any consideration whatsoever. In the case of Australian Iron Steel Pty Ltd v Banovic (1989) 168 CLR 165 the employer wanted to deploy the Last on first of policy in relation to a redundancy situation. The court held that the employers decision is unfair as most of the employees who were to be made redundant were women and accounts to sex discrimination. In the case of Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union v Mount Thorley Operations Pty Ltd (1997) 76 IR 364 it had been ruled by the court that the application of the last on-first off policy is not always discriminatory and can also be applied if it is fair according to the employer. The Employer's Policy manual/workbook is provided to the employees and has contractual effect in relation to the terms contained in it. Application In the given situation it has been provided that Bob and Ken are the drivers of Ore Ltd. Bob was better qualified than Ken but was working as an assistant of Ken for the last 18 months. Ken is working for 20 year in the company and has been surprised to find out that he has been placed on the redundancy list. He expected that the company would follow the policy of last in first off which was generally used in the industry. However as per the facts of the case the company put him on redundancy instead of Bob who had only been working for 18 months. According o te principles provided by the case of baker and Con-stan it can be evidently argued that the last in first off is not an implied term of the contract. This is because it is not an obvious or necessary term in relation to the existence of a contract. it may be argued that the incorporation of such terms may be done through customs in a contract but the policy is not very frequently used or popular in order to be an implied term. In addition the employers are allowed to choose any method to make an employee redundant unless such selection is unfair or discriminatory. As per the provisions provided by the case of Morgan the company not using the last in first off policy would not lead to a unfair redundancy. In addition there is no discrimination or unfairness which he employer has indulged into and such method of redundancy would be regarded fair under the FW Act. Conclusion Thus it can be ruled that the last in first off is not an implied term of the contract and the company has not made any breach of legal provisions by not using the last in first off policy. Leonardo Da Vinci Essays (964 words) - Giftedness,

Leonardo da Vinci Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Florence, Italy. Ever since birth he was in love with the study of science and art. Leonardo da Vinci did not only influence his culture with his art work, but with his numerous inventions and his study on the human body. Leonardo was a determined man who changed his culture by going against his society and following his dreams. By following his dreams he did what no man had ever done before. Leonardo introduced a new style of painting and sculpting to his society. From the beginning he broke away from tradition and went with a focus on the natural world. By painting one glaze of oil paint over another he would create a misty look. The mist look would slightly blur the forms in his paintings unlike stiff in traditional paintings. This technique is called sfumato. Most people said that sfumato ruined Leonardo's paintings. He also used light and dark colors next to each other to make a painting look more natural. It was a new concept for Italian culture. He also used oil paints which were new to Italy. During the Renaissance most paintings were either religious scenes or portraits, landscapes were found only in the background of paintings. But painting landscapes as backgrounds only was not good enough for Leonardo. He went against tradition. His first dated drawing is a country landscape entitled "The Valley of The Arno". When Leonardo moved to Milan, his first project was to build a statue of his employer's father. Leonardo had a brilliant plan to make a statue like no-other. The town's people said it could not be done, but Leonardo came through. It took him 11 years to complete a 26-foot high clay sculpture. He was the first to complete such a tedious project, after other artist learned of Leonardo's accomplishments they too tried Leonardo's style, he was a major influence. Leonardo's many finding influenced his culture and taught his people to be unique in their style of painting even though some people didn't agree with it. Leonardo also contributed to the world by his numerous inventions, many of which are still in use today. Some of his contributions were in warfare. He invented the crossbow which is much like our automatic weapons today. Leonardo's thinking was far ahead of his time. In his notebooks his drawings of tanks and fortresses were used almost 450 years later in World War I. Da Vinci's tank was similar to the tank that we use today, but then the people did not accept it and did not trust it therefore they did not use it. Leonardo also invented a fortress, he made it very detailed and made it so nobody could get into it. The fortress was one of the main defense planes in Italy's war against France. Leonardo kept many drawings of his inventions that were never made - such as his helicopter in his notebook with his secret mirror writings. Leonard influenced his culture with all his musical instruments such as the drum and violin-organist. He designed a clarinet type musical instrument called t he woodwind keys. He was also the first person to make an instrument that had more than eight holes. This allowed musicians to play lower notes. Leonardo also invented the life preserver. Unlike the modern life-preserver made of Styrofoam or plastic Leonardo's life-belt was made of leather filled with air but other wise it looked exactly like those of today's, his inventions are still helping us today. Many of Leonardo's inventions made use of the water wheel. For example Leonardo was the first to design a paddle powered boat. Although Leonardo demonstrated that it worked to the people of his town they still would not use it, they were not acceptable to change. All though Leonardo da Vinci was best known as an artist he mainly made his living by his civil engineering. Leonardo invented a retractable bridge for military use. I t was good for protection, Leonardo said "With it you may pursue and at any time flee from the enemy" All of Leonardo's invention influenced culture, by introd ucing a new way to think and by helping

Tips For Dealing with a Bad Boss

Tips For Dealing with a Bad Boss Jill Jacinto, HuffPo’s â€Å"Millennial Expert† has some suggestions for handling outrageous boss requests that cross the line from demanding to ridiculous. It’s harder than it sounds! At my first editorial assistant job out of college, they hired an executive who didn’t understand that my job was supporting the whole department- he was used to having a personal secretary and didn’t realize that I was not there to manage his calendar or handle his lunch order. But I couldn’t just say â€Å"sorry, you’re out of luck.† I had to deftly navigate the intersection of the professional and the political- and you can do it too!Say Yes, then Ask QuestionsAccording to Robert Hosking, the Executive Director of OfficeTeam who spoke with Jacinto, it’s better to try to be helpful instead of pointing to your job description and shrugging. If it’s something way outside of your typical roster of tasks, it’s probably worth ask ing your boss after the task is done if you can clarify their expectations and priorities for your workflow. If you’re at the bottom of the office hierarchy, it’s possible they’ll just add â€Å"gofer† to the list, but at least you’ll have directed their attention back to the job you were hired to do. You can also go to HR and ask them to mediate a discussion, particularly if you feel you’re being taken advantage of.Stay Away from NegativityRoy Cohen, author of The Wall Street Professional’s Survival Guide, suggests an anti-â€Å"Just Say No† response. If you refuse to go above and beyond, someone else probably will, and you’ll start to get a reputation as a non-starter.If you decide you do need to turn down an ask, try responses that show you’re capable of compromising and also fully loaded with to-dos, like â€Å"I’m just now finishing up a project on deadline- if this request needs to come first, I can s et it aside, just let me know if I should rearrange.† or â€Å"Is it possible to tackle this first thing in the morning? I can come in as early as you need me, but I have a prior commitment tonight†Politely Ask for ClarificationWith a boss who seems inclined to just keep piling on the demands, or worse, micromanaging how you fulfill them, sometimes it’s helpful to turn into the skid and ask for more clarification.Try questions like, â€Å"And would you like me to do X? How should I approach Y? Can you take a look at this and tell me if I’m on the right track?† This serves a dual purpose- it lets them weigh in at every step so you don’t waste your time on something they’ll ask you to re-do, and it makes you enough of a pain that they may micromanage less. When Requests Become UnreasonableWhenever I’m trying to decide if a request is reasonable or not, I try to mentally review the give-and-take dynamics in the office as a whole. If I’m in a company where the culture is to pitch in, I try to go with the flow a little more. If everyone else pretty much sticks to their lane and I suspect I’m being tapped as the youngest, or as a woman, or as most likely to be accommodating against my own self-interest, I might try to propose a compromise rather than just saying yes.I spent some time at a very small nonprofit with a boss who was, to say it politely, very hands-on. I’d been responsible for compiling a video slideshow for our annual benefit, which was only a few days away, and the video editor we’d hired was late turning around a final cut. My boss insisted I make the trek to the editor’s apartment after work and deliver the DVD to her apartment, which meant staying late at the office and walking over to get it in the pouring rain, then taking an express bus uptown and arriving home close to 11.I was wet, cold, and miserable by the time I had the DVD in my hand. To make matters wo rse, my boss wasn’t picking up the phone to confirm I should drop it off that night, so I finally gave up and went home.My boss was leaving me furious messages by the time I got back to my apartment–despite the fact that she’d been unreachable. She told me I should have gone to another coworker’s apartment to view it–she didn’t even trust me to watch a 15 minute video! I quit about a month later. If it have been a larger office, or I had been older than 22, I would have tried some of the other strategies before I gave up–but sometimes unrelenting inappropriate requests are a sign that you’re working in the wrong office.

4 signs your boss is not impressed with your work

4 signs your boss is not impressed with your work When things are going well at work and the praise is flowing, things are great. You’re feeling happy and accomplished, and comfortable that you’re in the right place. But sometimes there will be bad days and bad periods, when the work is more difficult, or you’re just not performing up to where you should be. How can you tell if things are moving into a danger zone with your boss? Let’s look at some of the signs that you’re just not crushing it at work. You’re bored. All. The. Time.A little boredom can be a good thing- it can give you some space to be creative, or find a new way of doing things. Feeling bored all day, every day is a bad sign. It means that something just isn’t clicking for you in your work. Maybe you just don’t have enough to do, or maybe you don’t like what you are doing. You should be doing work that makes you feel challenged and satisfied- if not all the time, then at least most of the time. If you†™re constantly bored, it’s likely that you’re not the only one who has noticed, and it’s time to consider your other options.Your work gets reassigned. If a project that would normally have come your way goes to a colleague (or is taken on by the boss herself), that’s a red flag too. It’s a sign that your boss is losing confidence in your ability to get the job done. If it happens only occasionally, it could just be that your boss is trying to spare your workload. But if you notice it happening frequently, it’s time to talk to your manager about it. Let her know that ready and able to take on tasks. You’re being micromanaged.Everyone’s had a manager like this at some point- the boss who details all of your next steps, item by item, and hovers to make sure everything is getting done. The boss who checks in every five minutes to see if you got his email. Some people are just micromanagers, but if you find that this is a consisten t issue with your own boss, it could be a sign that he or she doesn’t trust you with particular tasks. You’re called into meetings to discuss your work.Status meetings are one thing, but if you find your boss is regularly scheduling sit-down meetings to talk about the quality of your work, that’s not a great sign. Even if there’s no specific criticism, it can be a sign of lost confidence. So what do you do when you notice these issues creeping into your working relationship with your boss? The first step should be having a neutral, nonconfrontational discussion about it with your boss. Make sure he or she knows that you’re open to more responsibilities and making changes that make you more productive, while avoiding personal accusations. And if you find that there’s no longer a productive dialogue and your boss is still freezing you out, it may simply be time to look for another job.

FOIA and Privatization of Government - Article Example There should a difference in the way of privatizing the traditional governmental services and the private corporation using public funding for non-traditional services because the two are very distinct in the manner of disseminating their duties. The traditional government needs more strict rules in guiding against the events of FWAC because their services affect the entire public and a small flaw in them could lead to the collapse of the whole institution. On the other hand, the private corporations require observance as well but to a smaller extent based on the nature of the population they serve. The examples of FWAC in private corporations and nonprofit corporations that were not subjected to FOIA, but may have been prevented by FOIA include misappropriation of funds by the management, tax evasion, stealing the properties of the firms. Also, giving and taking of bribes, the incorrect use of resources by wasting them and offering favors to the friend and family members. All these FWAC have been prevented by the availability of checks by the FOIA board that has scared those in charge of practicing such vices. The incapacity of the FOIA legislation to force the private corporation to provide information when needed the contracting government agency can mitigate this by setting in the contract the terms that the information regarding the use of public funds should be disclosed to the public. The condition will enable the provision of data concerning the use of the public funds. The private corporations need the support of the government and, therefore, they will be forced to comply and provide the information otherwise they will not have such chances. The issue of concern based on the experience is the style of the provision of the information needed by the public by the FOIA. The fee charged should be reviewed from the set minimum of 15 dollars to as low as 7 dollars.

Holden Goes on a Date          Ring! Ring! The goddam alarm clock woke me up again. I was having a madman dream and all, when the alarm clock woke me up. I had this dream that me and old Jane were dancing together. We danced for five numbers then we sat down to have something to drink. Boy, she was a good dancer. She used to do ballet when we were kids. She could dance better than anyone I ever saw. Anyway, after we danced, we started shooting the bull. When she was talking, I started giving her the eye. After a while, we started necking. She was a terrific kisser. You could tell she was great because when she kissed she was really into it. She wasn't like all those phony kissers where they just open their mouth. Once, I was with this girl who was the worst kisser ever. We would be necking, and she would be all tense and nervous. Anyway, Jane and I were really hitting it off. I was about to give her the time when the goddam alarm clock woke me up.    When I finally got out of bed, I decided to give Jane a buzz. I arranged to have a bite with her at this Italian place down the street from her. I was getting really excited to see Jane for the first time since we were kids. I used to see her almost everyday. We used to play checkers a lot. One thing I have always remembered was she never would move out her kings. When she got a king she would leave it in the back row. I got out of bed, got dressed and walked outside.    I decided to take a taxi to the restaurant because it was crumby outside. The taxi driver was the worst taxi driver ever. I told him to take me to the Italian restaurant that I was going to. He said he never heard of it. What kind of taxi driver doesn't know how to get somewhere? Isn't it his job? Goodbye Uncle Tom and Abortion

Tom's treatment of black people back then was cruel and just sad to see. The whites mistreated millions of slaves and in the process, they're mentality was changed. That broken mentality from then affects the young black generation today because they believe that they are not worth anything. The African American generation of today is in extreme distress, they kill each other more and more everyday with very little remorse. They kill each other because they don't value life and some Of them are too young to realize that to only did they take someone's life, but they also destroyed their own. The murder rates of blacks in the United States are higher now than they were 25 years ago. More young black Americans die from homicide today in America than those of whites. More young black males are being imprisoned due to the rising violence in the black community leaving their women to raise the kids on their own. Black females have been affected more in a psychoanalytic and coloratura persp ective because of how black women were treated in the past.In the movie, it showed women being raped and then tossed as if hey were just animals. The men in that film abused the women to the point where they believed that they were nothing more than just tools for men to get their pleasure and nothing more. The ones that weren't killed ended up having kids that only reminded them of the pain they had to endure which made them feel worse. The mentality that they are just tools for men to get pleasure ended up being passed down to black females today as well. Some of them only feel valued when they dress a certain type of way to obtain a guys attention and affection. The abortion rate for African Americans has one up drastically as well. More and more young black women are getting abortions because they don't want to raise a child on their own. With the rise in black on black violence more black males are in jail and the ones that aren't in jail just walk out because they're not ready to be fathers. The abortion rate in America is at an all time high and most of the people getting abortions are young minorities because they feel they have no other option. Nothing is being done about these issues because the mentality of African Americans hasn't changed. They still suffer from the same broken mentality that their ancestors who were slaves suffered from. Black people won't be able to fix this problem until they admit that there is a problem, change their mentality, and learn to come together as a whole again. Black violence has gone up because more black people are against each other instead Of being for each other. In the movie, black people betrayed each other because they were not united and we're killing each other today for the very same reason. The mind set of black people has to change in order for black on black violence to stop.

Marianne Moores Poem “Poetry” - 849 Words

Poetry like so many other things in life is complicated and easily misunderstood, similar to the poem entitled â€Å"Poetry† by Marianne Moore. Through her unique way of writing Moore uses literary devices imagery and personification to make the readers question why it is she has come to â€Å"dislike†(line 1) poetry. In particular, her word choice leaves a lot of room to wonder exactly why she has chosen to write it this way. A main theme that is represented in this poem is conformity and whether or not it is something to be followed. There are many ways in which one can convey themselves. Marianne Moore uses her speakers â€Å"dislike†(Line 1) of poetry to bring forth the idea that society has dictated how poetry must follow a certain strict and†¦show more content†¦Her use of imagery â€Å"Hands that can grasp, eyes / that can dilate, hair that can rise / if it must, these things are important† (Lines 4-6) becomes a thing that one can visibly see the action taking place. These are all actions of the body portrays when either sacred, excited or fearful just like the action later mention with the animals. These are reactions, just like the animals she describes later on. Although these reactions are perceived differently because they are not subjected to a specific being. The reactions shown here are the type one sees when one is either scared or overly excited. Moores implication of â€Å"Hands that can grasp† (Line 6) is plural in reference could lead someone to think that there i s more than one persons feelings involved. An alternative way of looking at the line would be to suggest the â€Å"hands that can grasp †(Line 6) are a physical anchor in reality. My favorite lines come from the middle section of the poem I find there can be so taken just from these few lines: When they become so derivative as to become unintelligible, the same thing may be said for all of us, that we do not admire what we cannot understand (Lines 8 - 11) Like how it questions our outlook on how we live our life. Most people are content to just to follow the law and wont really stand up for themselves because they live in fear of having to deal with a worst situation or it is just theShow MoreRelatedImagism in Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams and Marianne Moore1601 Words   |  7 PagesEzra Pound, William Carlos Williams and Marianne Moore share? The poet is free to write about whatever they want. The goal is to unify voice and image into a talking picture. Poets then have the power to make words into things.
